Who am I...? Well I guess that means that I must take you back to when I was first blessed into the world of Star Wars and saw my first movie that I remember.."The Empire Strikes Back". I was right at the age of five years old and I still remember it very vividly. My Dad had taken me to see my first movie. After seeing it...I was hooked. Star Wars Fan for life. Like many I have loved the Galaxy Far, Far, Away for a very long time, and probably will until I draw the last breath in this world.
I was born in July of 1976. I have always been a Sci-Fi geek, and most of my true friends have as well. Here I am in my 40's and I still love Star Wars. Coming up I didn't have any brothers or sisters so I had to use my imagination. My parents divorced when I was 6 years old and it was pretty lonely for a while.
I knew that I ALWAYS had my Star Wars through thick and thin. So needless to say I have been collecting for a very long time. Being that kind of weird geeky kid, I also got into weird and unusual music as well as becoming a proficient multi-instrumentalist. I played in bands as a drummer, bass player, guitar player, keyboard player, or whatever was needed at the time. I played in bands throughout the Louisville, Kentucky area. I also was involved in the creation of a Hardcore Band called "The Four Rose Society" in the budding 1980's / 1990's hardcore scene in Louisville. I have been in bands, or played with so many musicians throughout my musical career. It has been an adventure to say the least.
I have loved music and Sci-Fi for almost the same amount of time. So naturally in the 2000's I started a Sci-Fi Rock Band called Clowncar with a great friend and fellow musician Derek. Derek is also the person who gave me my nickname of "Skippy". Remember that, it will come into play later in this article. We played together in bands together before the formation of Clowncar and we would go on to play together in that project for almost six years. Truly a lot of fun. We had songs about episodes of Star Trek, Darth Vader, Planet of the Apes, Alien Abduction, West World, and whatever else we could think of. Great memories there.
During this time, mind you, I had been writing and recording electronic instrumental music. Under the "Skippy The Machine" alter ego. It was a way for me get some musical release through creation of my own instrumentals. I have been a HUGE fan of and influenced by John Carpenter, Vince Dicola, Harold Faltermeyer, and that 80's synth sound for a very long time. That is where my style came from and it still lies there today.
But as in life everything turns a page and in 2013 I became a business owner. I started a business called "Kentucky Hot Brown Pedalboards, LLC". Making cool handmade pedalboards and accessories for fellow musicians out of some of the finest woods available. That business is still going strong today and has spawned other businesses. One of which being "Darth Skippy's Collectibles".
With Darth Skippy's Collectibles I buy and sell toys. There is a lot of Star Wars stuff...surprised right?! Not only that there is a lot of Pop Culture items that I sell as well. We have G.I. Joe, Back to the Future, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Lego, Funko Pop, Vintage Action Figures, X-Men, Marvel, DC, Hot Wheels, and pretty much anything I can get my hands on. It is a lot of fun and I love finding something and passing it on to another collector. It is something that truly brings me joy. Not only that, but I love talking about toys.
Remember I said that "Skippy" thing would come back into the fold? Well I eventually added the "Darth" prefix to Skippy and that is where "Darth Skippy" comes from, and of course I changed my alter ego for my musical projects to "Darth Skippy The Machine". I have turned my music, love of Sci-Fi, and Star Wars into a thriving business. I have also passed the love of Star Wars on to my kids. Thank you for taking the time to read this little blurb about me and who I am. I really appreciate it. Take care and the remember..."The Force Will Be With You...Always".
