The Full Story
Darth Skippy The Machine (Kenny Marine) was born in July of 1976. He has been a Sci-Fi geek for most of his life. Growing up as an only child he didn't have brothers or sisters, so he had to use his imagination. His parents divorced when he was six years old, so being creative was a must and helped him cope with everything that was going around him at the time.
He was a weird geeky kid, and he also got into weird & unusual music. Over time he became a proficient multi-instrumentalist. First learning piano at the age of five. This was the base for all instruments that he learned after. He played in multiple bands in his teens as a drummer, bass player, guitar player, keyboard player, or whatever was needed at the time. Playing in bands throughout the Louisville, Kentucky area, and was involved in the creation of a Hardcore Band "The Four Rose Society" in the budding 1980's / 1990's Louisville hardcore scene. He has been in bands and played with some of the best musicians in the region throughout his musical career. Even being signed as a development artist with Curb Records in Nashville, TN in the late 1990's.
Skippy having a love for music and Sci-Fi for most of his life started a band in the 2000's with the same theme. The Band "Clowncar", a Sci-Fi Rock Rock Band with his good friend and fellow musician Derek Carpenter was created. Derek is also the person who gave him the nickname of "Skippy". Derek and Skippy played together in bands together before the formation of Clowncar and would go on to play together in that project for almost six years. They had songs about episodes of Star Trek, Darth Vader, Planet of the Apes, Alien Abduction, West World, Logan's Run, and whatever else they could think of. Skippy was lead singer, rhythm guitarist, lead guitarist and one of the main songwriters. He also recorded most of the instruments on the Clowncar albums, with the exception of bass, mandolin, and a few keyboard tracks. He along with Derek would produce and master two albums together.
During this same Darth Skippy was already writing and recording electronic and synthwave instrumental music under the "Skippy The Machine" alter ego. It was a way to get some creative release through his own instrumentals. Always a HUGE fan of and influenced by John Carpenter, Vince Dicola, Harold Faltermeyer, Mike Post, and many of the 80's synth sound artists for a very long time it just came naturally. That is where his music style came from and continues to be influenced by today.
Once Clowncar wrapped up in 2015, Skippy started focusing on his own music and releasing tracks, singles, and a couple of albums. His style is rooted in Synthwave, but is heavily influenced by Rock, Pop, Metal, and many other genres from the 1980's.
Skippy eventually added the "Darth" prefix. Being a HUGE Star Wars fan it only seemed natural. So from that point on "Darth Skippy The Machine" was born and there to stay. Turning his music, love of Sci-Fi, and Star Wars into a thriving personality, business, and career. D.S. creates Music, Apparel, Merch, Accessories, and other designs for his website.
